Barracuda's - Locust Point
The Specter ventured out for the soft opening of Barracuda's in Locust Point tonight. After watching the former Luca's Cafe transform over the past few weeks, The Specter was excited to see if the relaunch would be a success. And outside of a few small missteps, it was.
The Specter went with an appetizer of 2 "coddies," fresh cod mixed with potato and a mustard-based sauce then fried like a crabcake. At $3 a piece these were a steal, served with saltines. The fish tasted fresh. I few bites were very salty, but overall a great appetizer.
The Specter had a salad which had a nice lettuce blend. On top it had sliced avocado and tomato and grilled shrimp, sliced in half lengthwise. The dressing was a cilantro lime vinaigrette. The salad was delicious and fresh. The only hold-up was the veins in the shrimp. Some people don't object to this, however The Specter would rather go through his delicious meal without thinking about shrimp poop.
For the main course The Specter selected the house-roasted turkey sandwich topped with swiss, a horseradishy mustard sauce, and lettuce. The house-roasted turkey had a tasty cajun rub on it which was definitely enjoyable. The Specter's eating companion wasn't as thrilled with the taste as The Specter was, he thinks her tastebuds may be in a coma. However they both agreed that the house-made potato chips that accompanied the sandwich were some of the best they've had.
The decor was great in the rowhome restaurant. Very comfortable and inviting. Plenty of extra seating upstairs in another adorable room, which looks very kid friendly (child-seats aplenty). For now they'll open on the weekends at 11am for breakfast/brunch -- they have a fra diavolo breakfast pizza and breakfast sandwich which both sound yummy. They also have the Sunday ticket so NFL-enthusiasts rejoice!
A couple kinks to work out but very, very impressive for the first night for a new restaurant. Great service and drinks too.
The Specter gives Barracuda's Locust Point 4 out of 5 stars and will definitely be lurking there again soon.
